An attempt to track the ups and downs and ins and outs of a boys attempt at, at best, becoming a semi-elite (thats at best) long distance runner

ups and downs

downside - my right shin still hurts. It hurt while I was lying in bed last night and first thing this morning... it hurts lying in bed for crying out loud. Yes, I did go out for a 4 mile jog last night. 4 miles feels like a terribly short warm up (i.e. nothing of any significance), and I did jog really slowly and play around with my form so that there was little stress on my shins. I then sat in Rock Creek for 15 minutes in order to ice my legs... it was damn cold and dark and so i sat and sang to myself to keep myself entertained. Must've looked like a right plonker singing away if anybody saw me through the trees while cycling along the path nearby.

Didn't cross train this morning. just felt really down that i wasn't able to jog 4 miles without my shin reacting. Woke at 5am and sat on the couch drinking tea for 2 hours. London is getting closer by the hour. I'm hoping for magic from the massage fella. If the pain is still there by Tuesday morning then I'll go see the doctor again.

upside - turns out that the club I run for/with DCRRC gave me an award: Outstanding Male Runner of the Year. I feel a little guilty cause there are guys who are better than me but just haven't been fit or haven't been racing. But... I'm quite flattered by it and it couldn't have come at a better time in order to boost my confidence a bit... which is close to rock bottom right now.

In an hour I'll go and sit on an exercise bike for 60minutes and then stretch a bit. Running without injury seems like such a blissful yet far off goal right now.

If i do get un-injured, and have a two weeks when I can get back in shape, then my taper better be pretty damn magical so that I can do well in London. I hope I'll look back at this and be able to say that it was just another challenge I got over... rather than the injury that derailed all of this seasons training.
